BraunPrize 2012: “Genius design for a better everyday”

How to design a walking stick for Dieter Rams? – This was probably not exactly the question Sebastian Reichel investigated when he designed his flexible walking aid for elderly people. Still, when the young industrial designer presented the concept of “Agil” during the final voting ceremony of the BraunPrize 2012, recently held in Kronberg, the former Head of the Braun product design department was also present. Spontaneously, he put aside his own wooden stick and tried out Reichel’s model. It convinced.

According to this year‘s motto “Genius design for a better everyday“ Reichel took first place in the student category while Oliver Klein’s concept of a baby carrier was awarded with gold in the new category for professionals and enthusiasts. Even though Braun products probably lost their unique aura of timelessness, the annual BraunPrize stands for a long tradition and enjoys an excellent reputation. Since its founding in 1968 it shows a jury history of outstanding personalities. This year not only the total prize money doubled to 100,000 US dollar. Also submissions increased to almost 2,400, coming from 73 nations! Congratulations!
